Trackitdown chats to Cave about his latest EXCLUSIVE on the store!
During his tour around the world, we caught the Norwegian techno guru DJ Cave in a quiet Monday evening for a short interview for all our friends on Trackitdown.net. Five years after he broke into the techno scene with his huge hit “Street Carnival”, he meets us to talk about the long awaited anniversary release number 10 on his very own Spilo Records, which is already a rocker in the sets of Carl Cox and Sander Van Doorn. Here is what Cave reveals: Q: Hello Cave, happy anniversary release for Spilo Records first! How was your weekend? We know you are coming from a gig in Slovakia.
CAVE: Hey there. Thank you! The weekend was very good.. had a show in Slovakia on Friday and overslept for my return flight in Saturday from Vienna.. So ended up spending another night there hanging out with my mate and Spilo-artist Boriqua Tribez.. So all in all an awesome weekend!
Q: Great! Can you tell us something more about the Spilo010 release?
CAVE: yes the Spilo 10 will be a 2 part release with remixes from well known producers.. they were all able to choose one Cave track from the past 5 years regardless of which label it was.. most of them choose their favorite track from Cave and made a really superb remake of it, and the end result is a crazy double pack release in my opinion.. The support has already been very good also!
Q: Which remixes are coming first and shall we expect a remix of “Street Carnival” on it?
CAVE: In the first part there will be 2 exclusive remakes. First is off course the classic “Street Carnival”, which came out in 2002. It was a bit dangerous to make a remix of this I thought because most people out there, at least myself are quite fed up with it, specially the break. So that’s why I decided to make a very updated remix which didn’t have so much of the original in it, and loads more energy so its rather a new track using some of the old samples instead of a remix. That’s why its called 2007 edit. And on the flipside of this release will be a remix by Ortin Cam of the Timbales track which came out on Ingoma in 2004, this was also a big track when it came out, and one of Ortins favorites. He did an excellent job updating it for 2007.
Q: So what comes next now both for the Spilo label and as Cave the producer?
CAVE: Well next up before the summer there are many exciting releases. For the Spilo label there will be the final part of Spilo 10, B. This will be an EP with 3 very huge remixes, some by old Spilo artists, and some by new artists who have not been on Spilo before but had great success on other labels! As for Cave releases the next Solo EP coming up will be HzTrax 10, with 2 original Cave tracks and a Hertz remix which is sure to whip the roof off any club! This release is the follow up to the Cave & Boriqua Tribez EP which came out last year, so those who liked that are sure to love this!
